Very enjoyable read. I skipped over Last Act in Palmyra before reading this because it is taking too long to get here. There is a fair bit of revealing the ending of that book in this one and not just in the obvious early chapter that serves as a bit off a catch up where we left off.

This caper revolves around a first century mob boss and a power vacuum. Petro and Falco work together or at least try to figure out who is pulling off some serious crimes after the mob boss has been put on his boat ready for exile. Lots of twists and turns among that shadowy crowd. More exciting is that Helena and Falco's families are all making more than cameos. Lots of fun

Time to Depart Marcus Didius Falco Mysteries Lindsey Davis 9780446605915 Books Reviews

The seventh in the series takes Falco back to Rome, where he and his friend Petronius (as close as Rome got to a policeman) are chasing bad guys. Lots of family complications, as usual, and -- as usual -- a good read. I don't think I will reread this one, though, the way I have and will the first several books in the series
Falco is back, and back in Rome. Facing off with villains and stollen antiquities, and having to spy on his closest friend. This with mounting pressure of expanding family, and a foundling, add to all the pans he must keep on the stove. If you like Roman and feeling caught up the lives of people of the time, with intrigue to boot, then this is the story and series for you.
Good story, great characters. Falco and Petro make a terrific buddy team and Helena rounds them out. Will read the whole series eventually and enjoy it as a travelogue, a history lesson and a fun time.
Thought this had a slowish start--a professional criminal is sent off to exile--but a vivid and riotous ending made up for some tedious or too-transparent twists and turns. Falco's speech seems rougher in this one ... perhaps he is aging not gracefully
Lindsey Davis consistently delivers with well-researched, well-written mysteries. I love her humorous edge. If you haven't read any of the Falco books, start at the beginning and prepare for many sleepless nights as you read through the series.
There are not adjectives fulsome enough to describe how damned good these books are ...Miss Davis not only gives us a window into this period in Rome that is historically solid, but one that is engaging and funny . Buy them all folks .
This is a wonderful series Marcus Didius Falco Mysteries. The setting, Early Imperial Rome, adds such a wonderful flavor to these witty, intriguing, amusing mysteries. The author, Lindsey Davis, brings a wealth of accurate historical knowledge to create a murder mystery in 1st Century AD Rome. Her characters are believable, funny, witty, amusing, and, in the case of the villains, evil. Her hero, Marcus Didius Falco, is diligent in his pursuit of the truth and arrest. He is supported by his "wife" Helena Justina a senatorial daughter who has aligned herself with an "informer" Rome's equivalent of a PI! In this tale, MDF is assisting his best friend Lucius Petronius Longo, a vigile/law officer, in exiling a particularly nefarious criminal, Balbinus. They get this criminal boss to the exile boat and then the tale begins. MDF, the lovely Helena Justina, and LPL pursue leads that uncover conceit, conspiracies, deceit, and vigile/police corruption. The author, Lindsey Davis, marches us through Rome, meeting amazing characters and plots, which are unraveled by MDF, Helena Justina, and LPL. A truly remarkable set of characters who are intriguing and who lead us through a beguiling mystery. A wonderful read!
