Worth the Wait Ladies of Harper Station A Ladies of Harper Station Novella edition by Karen Witemeyer Religion Spirituality eBooks
This is a short novella, with events taking place after No Other Will Do (Ladies of Harper's Station Book #1) It could be read as a standalone but I think it's better experienced if you read book 1 first. You'll appreciate how far Tori and Ben's relationship have come. Even though this was a novella, it felt complete. I guess because I was already familiar with the characters, nothing felt rushed. The romance, the conflict, the characters, the spiritual content--I loved it all. Ben was the best, he really knew what Tori needed and added levity when Tori needed some space. I was happy to see Tori finally break out of her cage and reach for her HEA. I recommend this novella, especially if you have read book 1!. This edition also included several chapters for book 2, Heart on the Line, and it definitely piqued my interest!Tags : Worth the Wait (Ladies of Harper's Station): A Ladies of Harper's Station Novella - Kindle edition by Karen Witemeyer. Title Worth the Wait
Written By Karen Witemeyer
Genre Christian Western novella
Recommended Ages 13 & up
Introduction
This book all takes place in one day in Tori and Ben’s life. And what a day it is. I’ve read both of the novels in this series and must say that I personally prefer the novels over the novellas, but more on that later.
Characters 1/1
As always, the characters are done well. Each of them has a unique personality and grows in some way during the story. My only complaint is that I think Ben was a little bit too perfect in this book. He may not have all the struggles that Tori does, but I think he should have had at least one flaw. He does get angry in a couple spots, but both times it is justified and he doesn’t overreact.
Dialogue .75/1
The dialogue was well done, period accurate, and perfect for each situation. There was wit, frustration, arguments, and so much more. Some of the dialogue did seem a little stilted or rushed. I think that’s one problem with many novellas. If the author doesn’t want it to get too long, the dialogue tends to speed up a little more than it should.
Plot/storyline .5/1
Overall, the plot and storyline are good. However, when I finished the book, I was a bit disappointed. I felt like the plot wrapped up a little too suddenly. I think Tori and I have similar personalities, especially with hiding emotions and if I had been in her situations, I’m not sure I could have been so quick to do what she does at the end (trying to avoid spoilers here). Yes, she had a little bit of time to think about it, but I personally would have wanted to take at least another day to mull things through and work out my own personal demons so to say before taking that next step.
Overall writing quality .75/1
The writing quality was excellent as usual with Karen’s books. Besides the rushed nature I mention above, I have no other complaints.
Un-put-down-ability 1/1
This book was nice and short and I got to read it while bottle-feeding and holding a baby all in about two hours. Even if I hadn’t had that wonderful chore, I wouldn’t have been able to put it down.
Conclusion 4/5
Despite the flaws I pointed out before, I still really liked this book and would recommend it for anyone who wants a quick read.
When Victoria Adams and her son joined the women’s colony at Harper’s Station, she found safety and a haven free from men. As the owner of the general store, she deals with the public daily, keeping a safe distance from any men who happen into her establishment. Only two men are welcomed in Harper’s Station Malachi Shaw, soon-to-be husband of the colony’s leader, Emma Chandler, and Ben Porter, a freighter who totes goods made in Harper’s Station to other towns for selling. As the ladies of the town gradually begin to trust that Malachi and Ben are there to help, not harm, can Tori let down her guard enough to see the man who has fallen head over heels for her?
This novella was a short, sweet addition to the Ladies of Harper’s Station series by Karen Witemeyer. It’s obvious from both the first book, No Other Will Do and this one, that Ben Porter loves Tori Adams. It’s equally obvious that fear of all men holds Tori back. I loved Ben’s single-minded determination to prove himself trustworthy, going out of his way in many cases to keep from frightening Tori with the depth of his feelings for her. His tough and tender personality shines, making him one of my favorite heroes thus far this year.
Historical romance readers who like a few giggles thrown in with the tears will love this series. I absolutely recommend!
