Hunting Danger Redemption Harbor Series Volume 5 Katie Reus 9781635560435 Books

I love Katie Reus! I have loved her other series! I have loved THIS series! I particularly loved Gage & Nova & was looking forward to their story. But the Gage in this book is a very different man than the one we've gotten to know & love -- in his own story he is a bit of a flake, all of a sudden he's questioning whether he's good enough for her, acts like an idiot -- WHAT happened?? He acted like a college kid lusting after a pretty girl.

And the story had potential, but the airplane crash?? It really served no purpose in the story. Rescuing Nova's friend Layla could have and should have been the focus of the story -- but it is kind of glossed over. And the "end" of Layla's husband was weird.

I will definitely read the upcoming books in this series, but I hope they go back to being the really great stories we've come to expect from this author!

Hunting Danger Redemption Harbor Series Volume 5 Katie Reus 9781635560435 Books Reviews

Hunting Danger by Katie Reus

5th Book in the Redemption Harbor romantic suspense series. It’s best to have read prior books. In particular because the last few chapters deal with criminals from the prior books and other character storylines.

Action, suspense, romance and love. Characters that steal your heart because of their unexpressed feelings. Such as “Her friendship was one of the most important things in his life.” A group of coworkers that have deep and unwavering support of each their.
A fantastic series. I can’t wait for the next book.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to share
Nova kicks into high gear after getting a coded cry for help from her foster bestie /sister, Layla, on the brink of her nuptials to Brody. She and Gage, her boss/ secret eye candy, fly out to help, only to crash land in Brook's jet. They rescue her and with the FBI and DEA, they nab Brody's crew, leaving Nova to permanently take out Brody.

The plot was a basic rescue the school teacher, while we witness Gage making sexual moves on his 'injured' employee, then creating a cheesy proposal for a HEA ending. The characters did not ingratiate themselves into my being, so I felt very less likely pull to root for them. Nova, claimed to be former CIA, yet she could not land her crashing plane, nor walk out after the crash because of her injured knee, yet she is seen unscratched and walking on her heels, within half a day post plane crash. These inconsistencies and the weak plot left me empty. This could also be that this is the first book I am reading in this series. Brody's irrational actions led to his inevitable downfall and death, and Layla has already started to flirt with scary looking strangers... what is wrong with these women?!?!!

Nova doesn’t hesitate to rescue her friend Layla, for reasons she isn’t clear on, with Gage hot on her trail. Life or death situations have a way of making reality pretty clear, making Gage realize he needs to get his priorities straight and stake his claim on Nova before it’s too late.

Overall, this was fun, quick read with a lot going on. The storyline was fast and action driven, which was great for my current attention span and quite enjoyable! I got a kick out of Gage and Nova’s ‘going nowhere’ attraction because Gage kept digging himself a ditch when it came to admitting his feelings for Nova, but he did so in a way that her attention was always on him. Obviously there’s an HEA, but even I was wondering if Gage was ever going to give in to his feelings!
Spoilers! This book started out fabulous with Nova and Gage in a death defying plane crash and the story went downhill from there. They make their way to safety, call for pick up and then move on to their destination to Nova’s friend. So, the pilot was drugged and dies of heart failure in an attempt to try to kill Brooks’ father. This has absolutely nothing to do with anything in this story and is disconnected from the storyline. Gage and Nova then help her friend sneak away from her criminal boyfriend and then it is all wrapped up in about 3 pages at the end. Seems like the author did not really know where to go with this from the beginning and just wanted to get it over with
While I've enjoyed this series, Hunting Danger wasn't my favorite of the bunch which I'm sad about because I've been waiting to finally get Nova and Gage's story. Gage is a hacker extraordinaire but his feelings about his self-worth has kept him from going after what he wants. He's also worried about overstepping by hitting on someone who is an employee even though he's not exactly Nova's direct boss. But Nova returns Gage's feelings and once she has a chance to spend time with him she starts to suspect Gage wants her too. However, Gage spends most of the book running hot and cold and sending lots of mixed signals. I felt that this confusion lasted just a bit too long but it does keep the tension high throughout the book. It takes work but Nova refuses to give up on Gage and she has no problem calling him on his "dumba**" moments.

While I liked the hero and heroine the series of events leading up to them admitting their feelings just didn't work so well for me. When Nova and Gage first set out for Montana to visit her friend, they take Brooks' private jet but disaster strikes and the plane crashes under mysterious circumstances. It turns out the plane being sabotaged has nothing to do with Gage, Nova, or the evil fiancé; I felt like this whole part of the story just didn't make any sense. The point of the plane crash was for Gage and Nova to realize they liked each other but they don't actually admit this. While they do kiss in the aftermath it takes quite a bit more of the story for them to actually give into their feelings. This makes it seem like the plane crash and their developing relationship has no connection. Had this been the only thing I might have rated this higher but I also had a problem with how things ended with the fiancé. I don't agree with Gage's actions and I think it was completely unnecessary as a choice.
